A painting always invokes a feeling. A scene might capture my attention because of its beauty, its sense of peace, its colors, its own feeling. An orchestrated still life might have been inspired by an appreciation of a moment. Regardless of the initial inspiration, the artist always puts a feeling into the painting, whether it is channeled or it is forced. I value technique and skill and I always strive to improve, but what I really wish to leave for viewers is a feeling, a good feeling. Maybe one might feel peace or love or joy It is my hope that something stirs inside and one has a sense of beyond.
The main body of my fine art work is landscape done in oil. I also paint still lifes and figures. Most landscapes are started in plein air and then finished in the studio. I was trained classically in realism but would say my style is more impressionistic. I have been playing with abstracting landscapes, always starting from what I see. I am enjoying the process and loving the results. My work hangs in many homes in the US and abroad.
One of my patrons once wrote to me: "You have a kind and gentle nature and it emanates in your paintings."
Many of the paintings for this Nantucket show are small. This boat caught my attention - alone by the grasses on the shore- no other boats, no person to claim it.

In Madaket Oil 5x5 $325 framed
Now that Smith Point has "shrunk" there are other ways of getting there. This is a view from one of the access points to Smith Point. I walked out a little away from the point looking the other way and captured this scene. It is painted on board.

Smiths point oil 14x18 $950 framed sold This is smith point before the dunes were washed away. It looks completely different now. Several houses near by are now gone. I started this painting a few years ago, but never finished it. I was inspired to finish it after seeing the damage done.

Morning Monomoy Oil 9x14 $895 framed Sold because it was low tide, I was able to walk along the shore further than I had ever before. I have painted Monomy from several angles before but never was I able to at this longer and wider perspective. It was early in the morning, very quite and so beautiful.

Between Eel and Smith Points Oil 10x14 $895 framed Sold This painting was done late in the day. I love the way the shoreline changes as the tide goes in and out. The "fingers" that jut out into the water become shorter or longer and taller.
